Hel's Kitchen is catering a dinner focused on girls' education in Afghanistan, hosted by Joyce Manchester and David Stapleton at the Unitarian Church in Montpelier. Please join us! The invitation from Joyce and David is below, with information on how to RSVP.

Hello Friends in the Greater Montpelier Area,

We’re excited to present an evening of Afghan food and discussion of girls’ education in Afghanistan on May 16th at the Montpelier Unitarian Church. It’s a chance to hear first-hand about the successes and challenges of efforts to improve education for girls in Northern Afghanistan from special guests Airokshsh Faiz Qaisary and Ellaha Sharifi and enjoy good food. Please join us!

Where: Unitarian Church vestry, 130 Main St., Montpelier, VT

 When: May 16, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Airokshsh and Ellaha work with Sahar Education International, a foundation that supports education for Afghan girls (www.sahareducation.org). Airokhsh grew up under the Taliban in Mazar-i-Sharif and Ellaha grew up in a refugee camp in Pakistan. Both are recent graduates from U.S. colleges and are dedicated to supporting education for girls in their homeland.

Moretown residents Joyce Manchester and David Stapleton will host the event. We have been supporting education for girls in Afghanistan and Pakistan since 2003. We choose to promote education, health care and economic opportunity as a way to offer alternatives to extremism. Joyce is the manager of the Safer World Fund at Global Giving. The Fund provides matching contributions for donations to NGOs that support education and health care for girls and women in Afghanistan and Pakistan, including Sahar. https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/the-safer-world-fund/. David is a Sahar board member.

Dinner is free and will feature a menu of Afghan foods prepared by Hel’s Kitchen in Montpelier. It will include Mantu (dumplings - vegetarian and meat versions), Bichak (savory turnovers), Korma (spiced stew), Bouranee Baunjan (eggplant), Rice Palaws, Naan, and desserts.

Join us on May 16 to learn more about this worthwhile cause. Contributions to support Afghan girls’ education are welcome, whether you can attend or not! All contributions to Sahar are tax deductible. See RSVP and contribution information below.

Hope to see you there!
